This exam is more comprehensive than a regular dental check-up as it’s a time to get to know you and introduce our dental team. Whether you are new to Flower Mound, Texas, or haven’t seen a dentist for years, a new patient dental exam will give you a better idea of how to meet your dental care needs.Â
What to Expect from a New Patient Exam
A new patient dental exam is a great way to kick off your dental care services. You’ll have a chance to meet Dr. Will Wyatt and our team and get to know our facility. We’ll also have an opportunity to get to know you better and assess your dental care needs.
We’ll start your exam by reviewing your medical and dental history. We’ll take note of health issues and medications you’re taking that may affect your dental care. We’ll also discuss prior dental treatments and how they’ve impacted your oral health. We’ll review any concerns you may have about your teeth or gums and answer questions about your oral care. Then, we will move on to the physical aspects of your exam.
This exam will include:
- Digital and panoramic x-rays of your teeth to evaluate the state of your gums, jaw, and teeth
- A thorough inspection of your gums and teeth
- A periodontal evaluation to detect signs of gum disease
- An oral cancer screening test
- A complete set of intraoral dental photographs.

Dr. Wyatt will update you on your oral health at the end of your exam. If we uncover dental issues like decay or gum disease, we’ll recommend options for treatment. We’ll also discuss your oral health goals and schedule future appointments to meet them.

Dr. William E. Wyatt, Jr. started in dentistry at age 12, in his father’s dental office. His years of experience, expertise, and ability to provide the best outcome to patients utilizing the latest technological advances in cosmetic, laser, and restorative dentistry have earned him the respect and trust of patients.
Dr. Wyatt actively follows continuing education, participating in dental conferences, symposia, and fellowships. In 1986, he received his Fellowship from the Academy of General Dentistry, which requires at least 500 hours of additional continuing education and the passage of a rigorous written exam. The Texas State Board of Dental Examiners requires 12 hours of continuing education annually to maintain licensure. He regularly averages at least 200 hours per year. Dr. Wyatt is also a member of the American Dental Implant Association, American Dental Institute, American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry, and Seattle Study Club Dental Business Academy. He is a featured speaker at the chamber of commerce and other organizations, and is a published author on Dentaltown. Dr. Wyatt is certified in the Bio Clear technique for restorative dentistry. He is one of less than a dozen providers that have this certification action in the entire DFW metroplex.
